TUMLING

Tumling is a small hamlet in the Eastern Himalayas, located at an altitude of 9600 ft. It is on the way to the popular trekker’s destination, Sandakphu. From Manebhajan Tumling is at a distance of 13 kms and takes nearly 1 hour 45 minutes. The population of Tumling mostly comprises of Gurung families and is a 35 minutes’ walk from Meghma. There is only one vehicle which goes to Tumling i.e, the old Landrover from Maneybhanjang. As you get closer to Tumling, you will be able to spot small cottages and huts from a distance. For accommodation you will find a few private lodges and huts for tourists and trekkers heading to Sandakphu. Tumling, interestingly is a part of Nepal but there is no restriction for Indians or foreigners with Indian Visa. The Indo-Nepal border in this part is quite blurred and is a free way for all. From here you will also be able to witness the majestic Kanchenjunga and by going forward for about 15 minutes you can even notice the Mount Everest. During winters the region is covered in snow, though trekking is possible but the vehicles are hardly available. The viewpoint in Tumling is a small elevated area with few benches around. It seems like the Kanchenjunga is at a stone throw’s distance from here.
