SANDAKPHU

Placed at a height of 11,941 ft, Sandakphu is one of the highest peaks in West Bengal. It is located at the northwest of Darjeeling town and is the highest point or rather peak of the Singalila mountain range. Sandakphu is at close proximity to the border of Nepal, standing at the edge of Singalila National Park. The place has a small village on the summit, along with a few hostels. Four out of the five highest peaks in the world can be spotted from its summit. You can also afford a panoramic view of the entire Kanchenjunga Range from here. Sandakphu stands for ‘height of the poison plants’ because of the poisonous aconite plant growing in abundance out here. But you need not worry, as it won’t harm you unless and until you try to eat the blue colored flower or the leaves. Trekking to Sandakphu might sound very strenuous but is worth it. The kind of beauty you will be treated with is beyond words.
