LAMAHATA

Lamahatta is yet again a small village located just 23kms away from the main town Darjeeling. Surrounded by pine forest Lamahatta provides with some pristine views of Mt Kanchenjunga. This picturesque village was developed as an eco-tourism place back in the year. Lama in Lamahatta stands for Buddhist monk whereas Hatta for hut- a monk’s hermitage. At a magical altitude of 6800ft. Lamahatta is a calm and peaceful place with Pine trees standing majestically with the looming Mount Kunchenjunga in the fore front. The inhabitants are mostly tribal Buddhist people like Dukpas, Sherpa and Yalmoos. Some of the major attractions of Lamahatta are the park and well manicured garden within the village. A trekking rout has also been built that will lead tourist through the pine tree maze to two beautiful ponds locally called “Jore Pokhari” (twin ponds). The main residents of this place are Sherpas, Yalmos, Tamangs, Bhutias and Dukpas. They had all come together to turn this into a eco-tourism place. Lamahatta is well connected by the Darjeeeling- Kalimpong state highway and is probably one of the best place in the entire of Darjeeling District.
