KALAPOKHARI

Perched high at an altitude of 3186 meters, Kala Pokhri is a small Himalayan village inside the Singalila National Park. In Nepali the word “pokhri” stands for lake whereas “kala” means dark. So all together Kala pokhri is a local lake with dark water. The lake lies on the trekking route to Manebhanjan to Sandakphu. It is considered to be a sacred lake and the native people believe that it is home of the formidable Kalnaag or the huge black snake. Tourists frequently visit it to eye the black waters.
