GURDUM

Nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, Gurdum is a small hamlet located in the Singalila National Park. Standing at 8000ft above sea level, the place welcomes you with coniferous branches and bright hues of rhododendrons. The nutty smell and vibrant colors will make you fall in love with Gurdum. It also marks the Sandakphu Trek Base Camp from where trekkers initiate their journey towards the highest peak in West Bengal. When it comes to population, Gurdum lags behind. With only fifteen families, the people in this region are mostly followers of Buddhism. Their simple and easy lifestyle will surely lure you and you will be very pleased by their kind friendly nature. Also if your trek does not go beyond Sandakphu, you can simply trek down through Gurdum. You can opt for a direct downhill trek through the dense forests, which will take around 4 to 5 hours. The village has plenty of trekker’s huts, so you can relax about the accommodation part.
