Dhotrey also spelled as Dhotre is a scenically blessed sleepy settlement. Standing high at an altitude of 8,340 ft situated within the buffer zone of singalila national park. This place is just 11km from Darjeeling and around 100km from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP)/Bagdogra (IXB) . It is said that in early days the forest department use to collect timber logs with a 5km long ropeway, but presently you cannot find any trace of that ropeway now. When in Dhotrey you must visit the local monastery of Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. You can visit this place from the months of October to December if you want to witness a mesmerizing sight of Kanchenjunga. On the other hand if you want to witness the blossoms of Rhododendron, Magnolia and Orchids the best time is March to April.
